Company History

Cantele Memorials was founded by Victor Cantele and his wife Maria in 1949. Victor and Maria came over from Italy as immigrants in the early 1920’s in search of a better life. They originally lived in New York but later moved to Hudson where Victor or “Pa” worked for Staples Memorials. After Staples Memorials closed Victor purchased their inventory and equipment and moved it all a few miles away in rural Mellenville NY across from the local cemetery where they set up shop as a monument dealer. Victor passed in 1997 and Maria then passed the business to their son Benjamin and his wife Elenore. Benny and Elenore had three sons, two of which continued on working at the family business. Timmy went on to expand the company into manufacturing Vaults and other precast concrete product. B.J. took control of the monument portion as the third generation until his passing in 2020. The company is currently owned and operated by BJ’s wife Mary Cantele and their son James Cantele. James is the fourth generation with hopes of his sons Colby, Tucker, and Memphis training to be the 5th generation.
