Company History

Cantele Memorials was founded by Victor Cantele and his wife Maria in 1949. Victor and Maria came over from Italy as immigrants in the early 1920’s in search of a better life. They originally lived in New York City but later moved to Hudson where Victor or “Pa” worked for Staples Memorials. After Staples Memorials closed Victor purchased their inventory and equipment and moved it all a few miles away in rural Mellenville NY across from the local cemetery where they set up shop as a monument dealer. Long before Victors passing in 1988, the company was passed to his son Benny and wife Elenore. Of their three children, Timmy grew the company to include burial vaults, and BJ took control of the Monument portion as third generation with his wife Mary in the early 90’s. BJ unexpectedly passed in 2020, and the business was passed to his wife Mary and son James as fourth generation. James looks forward to growing the company and eventually passing it on to his sons for the fifth generation. .
